Report: Rosatom asks government for 1 tln rbl on upgrade

MOSCOW, Feb 13 (PRIME) -- Russian nuclear power corporation Rosatom has asked the government to grant 1 trillion rubles on construction of reactors in the framework of a program of the country’s energy sector upgrade, RBC reported on Tuesday, citing a representative of the company and four sources close to the discussion of the issue.

The entire modernization program is estimated at 1.5 trillion rubles.

Rosatom’s petition was voiced on Monday at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich. It is supposed that the funds will be spent on construction of three VVER-1200 reactors – two at the Kurskaya and one at the Smolenskaya nuclear power plants – and a fast neutron reactor at the Beloyarskaya nuclear power plant.

One of the sources said that Rosatom offered to compensate the spending on the VVER-1200 reactors.

Rosatom CEO Anatoly Chubais also offered to build more green power units, the sources said.
